The good twin-bad twin genre gets an unusual and fascinating once-over in this intense, often gruesome and quite disturbing psychological horror film based on an actual incident. Irons stars as identical twin brothers whose drug dependency and romantic involvement with the same woman (Bujold) triggers their emotional and professional decline. Irons gives a truly magnificent performance as the two doctors, giving each brother a distinctive and subtle shading. Bujold is excellent as the actress caught between them. Masterfully directed by Cronenberg, the faint of heart should beware.
