James Woods and Alan Arkin star in this witty film that spans forty years in the life of a popular Canadian novelist. Joshua Shapiro (Woods) is a man facing a scandal. A tawdry newspaper has falsely involved him in a homosexual affair and his wife now lives in a mental hospital. So in a daydreaming way, Joshua takes a look at his life, trying to figure it all out. His father (Arkin) , a small time gangster taught Joshua his unique version of the Torah and morality in betwen prison sentences. It's compelling drama lightly seasoned with comedy.
