REVIEW
Lightning doesn't strike twice for Men in Black director Sonnenfeld and star Smith with this bloated, big-screen version of the popular 1960s TV series. Everything that made Men in Black exciting and fun is missing here, from a sharply written screenplay full of funny lines and situations to taut direction to chemistry between the two leads. In fact, Smith and Kline seem to be acting in two separate movies. Smith is James West, secret agent par excellence in 1870s America. He's paired with master of disguise Artemus Gordon (Kline), and together they search for master criminal Dr. Arliss Loveless (Branagh). Their adventures bring new meaning to: over the top. There's nothing wild about this west -- only garish effects, silly exploits and boring repartee. Stick with the original TV show.
