Natural Born Killers

Stone's hallucinatory roller-coaster ride follows a pair of unrepentant serial killers (Harrelson, Lewis) on a cross-country spree of wanton carnage and mind-bending schizoid dementia. Ultimately joining them is Downey as the Aussie-accented host of a sensationalist TV tabloid show who is determined to get their story at any cost. Quentin Tarantino's inventive script has the two homicidal lovebirds consummating their relationship with the murder of her abusive father (Dangerfield) in a bizarre and hilarious skit that parodies TV sitcoms. But Stone has trouble finding the humor in the rest of Tarantino's tale and the result is yet another exercise in bashing the audience over the head -- this time about our culture's love affair with violence and the media's mercenary job of feeding that appetite.
