REVIEW
Clooney comes into his own as a charismatic, commanding leading man, playing a convicted bank robber who escapes from prison only to collide with a tough, sexy Marshal (Lopez). Sparks fly, temperatures rise and before they both know it, they're disregarding priorities and duty respectively, only to pursue their improbable mutual attraction. The plot unfolds in hectic flash-back-and-forth fashion and shifts from Miami to Detroit to two different prisons, but director Soderbergh manages a minor coup by keeping the plot streamlined and cohesive, and giving the film a visual panache. Soderbergh knows how to create and maintain suspense and allow a running joke to build momentum before perfectly timing its payoff. In addition to the sizzling star turns by Clooney and Lopez, the supporting cast is terrific across the board. The hippest, coolest film of its year, Out of Sight is sure-fire, lightning-fast excitement, and it'll keep you guessing right up till its great ending. Based on Elmore Leonard's novel.
