Pacino is Tony Montana, a particularly vicious thug in the Cuban Mafia, who, fueled by a perverse vision of the American Dream, rises to the top of the drug world. Director DePalma's controversial updating of the 1932 classic is excessive, bloody, lurid and lacking even a hint of subtlety. Yet it is also visually exciting, delivering salacious fun and complete enjoyment on a gut level.
