Romy and Michele's High School Reunion

Sorvino and Kudrow go the dumbed-down comedic route as two joined-at-the-hip, totally airheaded, underemployed, fashion-victim space cadets preparing for their tenth anniversary high school reunion. Now living in L.A., they plan their assault on their middle-America home town, hoping to prove to their adolescent nemeses that they are no longer losers. The characters are too broadly drawn and the film too self-consciously sardonic to elicit any real emotional response. While Romy and Michele... is marginally saved by some warm moments and biting insights, as well as bouyed by some inventive camera work, it tries too hard attempting the hip, urbane sensitivity which flowed effortlessly from, for example, Chasing Amy. Check out Garofalo in support as the hostile, bitter, intellectual chick.
