This follow-up to Verhoeven's brilliant original lacks the insightful political commentary and wit of the first film. On top of that, the film is excessively violent -- to the point of mean-spiritedness. The special effects are excellent, particularly the animated face of the villainous Robocop 2, and the action moves at a spirited pace.
