Three journalism students (Marsden, Headey and Reedus) go too far when asked to identify the link between news and gossip. To illustrate, they create a real-life rumor about a celibate freshman (Hudson) and her boyfriend (Jackson) getting it on. When the boyfriend is wrongly arrested on date rape charges, the students realize that the rumor has gotten out of hand and has become the news. The serious issues are muddled in a pretty generic teen thriller that, like its characters, has a tenuous grip on reality.
