Under Suspicion (2000)

One of those mishandled theatrical releases that deserves to find an audience on video, Under Suspicion is a compelling cat-and-mouse mystery that'll have you guessing right up until the end. Hackman portrays a prominent tax attorney in Puerto Rico who is being questioned by his friend, the police captain (Freeman). There was a brutal murder and rape of a young girl and Hackman is now the prime suspect. But did he do it? Flashbacks help provide insight into his possible guilt or innocence, and thankfully director Hopkins never allows this device to become either confusing or cloying. As would be expected, both Hackman and Freeman are first-rate.
