REVIEW
Greg Focker (Stiller) certainly has his work cut out for him. Not only does he have to deal with that name, but he's on his way to meet the parents of his intended fiancée Pam (Polo). He wants to ask permission for Pam's hand in marriage from her strict dad, and everything has to go right. It's to our enjoyment that nothing goes right for Greg, and the worse things get for him, the funnier things get for us. Combining some nifty one-liners with uproarious sight gags, Meet the Parents once again demonstrates (after Analyze This) the golden comic talents of De Niro, here at his gruffest comic best as Jack, Pam's doting father. It seems Jack has certain house rules, and to break just one would spell disaster for Greg -- what happens when you break them all? Director Roach basically brings the same anarchic comic sensibility he brought to Austin Powers, though the film rarely approaches the nastier comic regions which could have set it apart. Stiller is a terrific foil for all this madness, and he and the hilarious De Niro have great chemistry in all their verbal sparrings and physical schtick.
