Bring It On

Dunst is voted captain of her cheerleading squad, and must defend their first-place status in the all-important squad competition. This year, however, they may have to face off against the superb Compton squad -- whose routines Dunst's group have been "borrowing" -- if the Comptons can afford the entry fee. A lightly amusing teen film, Bring It On is bolstered by assured direction, some surprisingly sharp satire and Dunst's solid performance (the rictus on her face when she's forced to perform a stolen routine is at once hilarious and agonizing to watch). With fun support from "Buffy"'s Dushku as the tough-ass new chick on the squad, this is a touch more sophistication than one might expect.
