REVIEW
MacDonald plays the long-suffering second-generation butler of ancient tightwad Stritch, who hatches a plan with pal Chapelle to kidnap her dog for a million bucks. Things go way wrong (for them and the film as well) in this attempt at screwball comedy from the writers of Ed Wood and The People vs. Larry Flynt. Blame must be assigned for a film so widely hated, but it shouldn't rest on MacDonald's shoulders. Sure, he can't act, but he never could. It's that no jokes stick to his slacker shtick. While Alexander & Karaszewski dream up some funny situations, they forget to do anything with them. Sub-sitcom direction, poor timing, and a score seemingly rejected from a lost '80s film add to the agony. -- David Gorgos
