Powerful stuff from director Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde). This tale of growing up in the sixties is a classic story of a son of steelworker who falls in love with the girl his best friends have fallen for. It takes a decade to work out, but they figure it out. The car crashing onto the sixties disco finale is one of the most memorable scenes in Penn's films. Magical score by Elizabeth Swados.
