Spader and Bassett makes an unlikely but attractive couple in this otherwise turgid and choppy space opera. A space vessel receives a distress call and discovers a lone survivor: a mysterious young man with a connection to Bassett. A typical but potentially cool premise is dragged out interminably, despite the strong efforts of the cast. Original director Hill was replaced immediately after production by Jack Sholder, who was replaced in the editing room by Francis Ford Coppola. As would be expected, the result is a jumble. Apparently, there's 20 minutes missing from Hill's original vision, and the whole affair ends with a perversely romantic wrap-up.
