REVIEW
Fosse's savory depiction of Christopher Isherwood's '30s Berlin stars an effervescent Minnelli as nightclub singer and carefree bohemian Sally Bowles and York as Isherwood's alter ego Brian Roberts. The short-lived decadent world of pre-Hitler Berlin as well as the rising nationalistic tide of Fascism are effectively captured in this trendsetting musical. Griem is a wealthy and debonair baron who sweeps both Sally and Brian off their feet. The musical numbers performed at the Kit Kat Klub are just some of the film's rousing highlights, a collection of great songs belted by both Minnelli and Academy Award winner Grey as the devilishly cynical Master of Ceremonies.
