Year of the Gun

REVIEW
After a slow start, lots of un-subtitled Italian and a less-than-compelling performance by McCarthy, this political thriller by Frankenheimer gets into gear, intensifies and delivers. Set in Rome during the late '70s, McCarthy plays a journalist writing a fictionalized account of a Red Brigade plot to kidnap Aldo Moro. Paranoia and violence quickly follow when the dangerously accurate manuscript is stolen. A good supporting cast includes Pankow as a mysterious professor, Stone as a mysterious photojournalist and Golina as McCarthy's mysterious girlfriend.
