An absorbing and literate WWII drama about American G.I.s stationed in England. Gere and Devane are but two of the "Yanks" who begin relationships with British women -- Gere with young Eichhorn and Devane with married Redgrave. In support, Roberts gives a smashing performance as Eichhorn's inflexible mother. Fine direction from Schlesinger, who has a keen eye for the detail and atmosphere of the era.
