REVIEW
The curious real-life relationship between no-nonsense lawman Wyatt Earp (Costner) and tubercular cardshark Doc Holliday (Quaid) translates into an engrossing cinematic experience. Quaid's performance as the morally precarious, deathly ill and completely ironic Holliday is inspired and plays perfectly against Costner's dead-pan, straightlaced Earp. Unfortunately, the Earp/Holliday relationship takes up only a quarter of the film which devotes too much time to the admittedly picturesque vistas of the American West and to Costner's steely stares. A talented roster of actors deliver first-rate performances but none are able to sufficiently expand upon their less than delineated characters. Editor's Suggestions
