That age-old story of two unlikely people overcoming differences in age and background to find true love receives a fresh injection of star power in this touching romantic comedy. Sarandon and Spader star as, respectively, an earthy, 40-something burger joint queen and an uptight, late-20s Jewish yuppie. Though White Palace may be slightly sentimental and formulaic, Spader and Sarandon are as classically mismatched as any classically mismatched couple to come before them and both deliver sparkling performances: together they simply ooze sexuality. A real audience pleaser, with a few surprises and plenty of wit.
