When the Party's Over

Ostensibly a comedy-drama about the transition into adulthood, director Irmas' film seems aimed at (perhaps even made by) those who have not yet started the journey. In the ensemble tradition of such issue packed films as St. Elmo's Fire, this glossy film presents a house full of beautiful, successful young urban stereotypes trying to come to terms with adulthood and each other. The film is structured as a series of loosely connected flashbacks that lead up to a New Year's Eve crisis and the soul-searching powwow that follows. The relatively talented cast get a feeble shot at trying to rise above the material. Young adulthood deserves a slightly less lamebrained rap.
