The Wedding Gift

An amiable comedy-drama based on the true story of one of the early sufferers of what has come to be known as "chronic fatigue syndrome." Because of a series of unexplainable ailments, Walters becomes dependent on husband Broadbent, who becomes her devoted caretaker. Eventually, he is smitten by a nearly blind novelist (Thomas), but he finds himself unable to cheat on his disabled wife. Walters, however, has another plan as she arranges for Thomas to take her place upon her death. Though this sounds like the basis for a bawdy comedy, The Wedding Gift is instead a slightly somber melodrama peppered with Broadbent and Walter's witty repartee, which though pleasing to watch, is ultimately a letdown.
