REVIEW
Based on the semi-classic 1960 chiller, this version features updated effects and splendid cinematography, but it is not really much different than the original in plot. The inhabitants of the coastal California town of Midwich suffer a strange sleeplike trance one day but emerge seemingly unharmed -- until they discover all the townswomen are pregnant. A mass birth, facilitated by local doctor Reeve and federal epidemiologist Alley, results in a group of bizarre offspring who mature into eerie, super-intelligent adolescents. Carpenter is unable to ignite the story sufficiently, though the film is still moderately entertaining.
