This legendary cult film is an aurally hypnotic and sensually seductive drama of the spiritual and sexual enlightenment of a group of Westerners who venture into the uncharted, mystic rainforest of New Guinea. With ravishing photography by Nestor Almendros and a spacey soundtrack by Pink Floyd, the film follows a bored diplomat's wife (Ogier) who travels into the interior of a strange land searching for the feathers of a near-extinct bird for retailing in Parisian boutiques. Along the way she meets up with several hippies, dreamers and dropouts. Together, they experience a transformation of spirit when they meet the indigenous Mapuga tribesmen and travel to a secret and strangely powerful "valley of the gods." (French with English subtitles)
