REVIEW
Russell creates some stunning visuals but comes up short in dramatic terms in this lurid exposé on the life of silent screen star Rudolph Valentino. Opening with the frenzied scene of his funeral, the film's flashbacks attempt to chart his rise to fame as well as uncover the man behind the image. As Valentino, Nureyev -- who looks the part -- is, unfortunately, wooden and uninspiring. Russell, who in the past has not side-stepped homosexual themes, curiously downplays the Latin Lover's gayness in favor of a man constantly trying to prove his masculinity. You Might Also Like
