In this "A-budget," femme fatale-less thriller, Dahl concentrates on "hallucinatory cinema" such as Jacob's Ladder and Don't Look Now, rather than his accustomed '40s B-movie vocabulary. The results are mixed. Liotta stars as a forensics expert whose unending search for his wife's killer leads him to experiment on himself with a formula (developed by scientist Fiorentino) that enables him to experience the memories of murder victims -- and in some cases, to actually see who murdered them. Dahl's visual stylization of Bill Geddie's screenplay focuses on the power of memory thereby adding an extra dimension to the story. Fiorentino does nothing to restore the luster of her previous teaming with Dahl in The Last Seduction.
