REVIEW
Very few contemporary filmmakers can ever be accused of originality and so it seems ironic that one of the most inventive of the lot, Lynch, is already giving way to self-tribute. Regardless of this, however, this necessary, quasi-Gothic return to the mythical hamlet of "Twin Peaks" recycles the insightful themes introduced in the series, scaling them up to near-operatic proportions to chronicle the events leading up to the murder of Laura Palmer. Lee reprises her role as the doomed nymphet. A fitting coda to the small-town saga and the successful effort of an innovator forced to walk the tightrope which spans the chasm between cinematic genius and televised mediocrity.
