A very youthful Spader stars in this satisfying teen pic as a streetwise preppy who takes on an L.A. gang and falls for the gang leader's girlfriend (Richards). Not as formulaic as you'd expect, and Spader demonstrates the timing and intensity which would make him one of the movies' leading actors just a few years later.
