Trial and Error (1997)

Another courtroom comedy from director Lynn (My Cousin Vinny). Playing straight man to Richards' lunatic, Daniels is a lawyer about to be married. His bachelor party is such a success, he's unable to go to court the next morning. Friend and actor Richards subs for him in court to ask for a continuance. But Richards is forced to continue the charade when the continuance is denied, and Daniels must coach Richards from the sidelines. Goofy and occasionally genuinely funny, Trial and Error benefits from Torn's presence as the defendant, though many scenes outside the courtroom lack the comic energy of the trial scenes.
