Hoffman legitimizes transvestism in this glorious comedy and slyly stirring social criticism. Forced (?) to don women's garb to propel his acting career, Dustin becomes the queen of the daytime soaps and the thwarted victim of his attraction to a female costar (Academy Award winner Lange). The film features great dialogue and a sparkling supporting cast.
