With lush settings and a dreamy score (including Nat King Cole's "When I Fall in Love"), writer-director Hare sets a romantic tone in this unconventional film. Brown (Hare's wife) portrays an American physician living in Britain who discovers love and confusion in both her carefree sister (Fonda) and an enigmatic businessman (Ganz). Hare's direction is fluent, his dialogue graceful; Brown beautifully depicts a woman on the uneasy path to self-discovery.
