REVIEW
Seeking to combine the Baby Boomer humor of This Is Spinal Tap with the plight of the working-class dramedy so in vogue in Britain (The Full Monty, e.g.), Still Crazy is thoroughly inconsequential but still enjoyable. Rea is the keyboardist of Strange Fruit, a rock band that was apparently huge in the '70s, and he wants to experience that magic again. But the band is full of petty conflicts that hamper a reunion, from the taxman-evading Spall to the egotistical Nighy. Oh, did we mention that the singer (Robinson) is dead? No matter, when they get together to play punk dives they naturally discover love, friendship, and the dangers of farting in a trailer. Wildly uneven but always light and enjoyable, Still Crazy benefits most from an original repertoire of songs that is solidly, bombastically 1970s.
