America's two favorite pastimes, baseball and sex, take it on the chin in this uneven though well-acted comedy-drama. Harmon stars as a down-and-out ballplayer who, upon hearing of the death of a childhood friend, reminisces and reflects upon their relationship two decades earlier. Partially told in flashback, the film is equally divided between the present and past, and is far more successful in the scenes involving the latter. Foster gives a wonderful performance as Harmon's free-spirited mentor.
