REVIEW
Set on a great English estate in the autumn of 1913, this entertaining and highly acclaimed film casts a slightly jaded eye towards both the landed gentry of an Edwardian England on the brink of WWI, and the irrevocable changes that it produced. It marvelously identifies the petty ceremonies and traditions of a declining ruling class and is filled with the crisp conversations of a cast of well-defined, idiosyncratic individuals.
