This campy psychological thriller stars Taylor as a middle-aged tart who becomes involved in a strange relationship with a mentally unbalanced rich orphan (Farrow). Taylor's character, still in mourning over the loss of a young daughter, finds her emotional and financial needs answered with "poor little doe" Mia. They play mommy and daughter, yet with interesting lesbian undertones. As they become involved in mutually destructive emotional mind games, Farrow's sexually abusive stepfather (Mitchum) returns unexpectedly, prompting a dramatic escalation of tensions.
