REVIEW
Set during the repressive Franco regime (which acts as a symbol of the equally repressive Catholic Church), this involving drama follows the tortured life of a 36-year-old priest as he struggles with his vow of celibacy. Father Miguel (Andreu) is a conservative priest who blindly follows the restrictions of authority until he becomes troubled with his raging and unspent libido. Unable to find solace in either Christ or the arms of a married woman who loves him, the tormented man resorts to a horrible act in an attempt to solve his problems. Similar in tone and theme to 1994's Priest, this film stays more focused on the dilemma of a sincere man who must fight the conflicting forces of his religious calling and the calling of physical desire.
