Larceny, infidelity and murder among California's nouveau riche form the core of this hilarious comedy. DeVito plays an unfaithful husband who plots to kill his overbearing wife, Midler, who, fortunately for him, has been kidnapped by a not-so-ruthless couple whom DeVito swindled. Reinhold and Slater are the hapless couple. A hip, modern retelling of O'Henry's celebrated short story, "The Ransom of Red Chief."
