Rush (Jason Patric)

A dark, intense look at undercover cops in 1970s Texas, Rush has an unrelentingly grim outlook, which, though obstensibly about agents becoming lost in another world, comes off more as a 1980s "just-say-no" parable. In another long line of stand-out performances, Leigh stars as a novice police officer who is teamed with brooding Patric to snare alleged drug kingpin Allman. As the two officers introduce themselves to the denizens of the underworld, they slowly become what they're hunting. It's a point, though well made, which would have been used to better dramatic effect if not for the blatant moralizing.
