Writer-director Nunez presents the simple story of Ruby, a young woman who flees a desolate life in rural Tennessee and settles on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Judd is a revelation as Ruby, who explores who she is while happily working in a tacky seaside gift shop. Her graceful performance is one of subtlety and nuance which, combined with Nunez' gentle direction, elevates what could have been a run-of-the-mill outing. Despite some minor screenplay contrivances, this is the kind of work that gives independent filmmaking its good name. AWARDS:
