Michael Crichton's adaptation of his Japan-bashing, high-tech best-seller is a tedious tale of corporate espionage. Connery and Snipes are an unlikely duo as a pair of L.A.P.D. liaison officers sent to investigate a murder at the boardroom of a major Japanese multinational. Of course, their search for the killer leads them right into the middle of the trade wars between Japan and the United States. All the while, the older and wiser Connery must explain to Snipes all of the tricks the Japanese are using to bury the U.S. economically. Ultimately, the film can't decide whether it wants to be a full-fledged action-thriller or an overly worded primer on Japanese business treachery.
