REVIEW
Altman's take on the Paris fashion world rates as a disappointment in spite of being intermittently fascinating. Assembling (once again) an amazing all-star cast, Altman sets out to both satirize and demystify the carnival-like atmosphere of the prêt-a-porter fashion shows, but sabotages himself by presenting too many players, the majority of which are dramatically shortchanged. However, some characters stand out, including Robbins as an American sports writer, Roberts as a rival reporter romantically involved with Robbins, Mastroianni and Loren as ex-flames, and Basinger, who nearly steals the film as a hilariously inept TV reporter.
