Bridges and Waterston star as two petty grifters; New West cowboys who decide to go after the big score. With intent to rustle some cattle, they team up with Stanton, hired hand to a couple of Easterners for whom the West is little more than a commodity. Sweeping Montana vistas offer mute witness to a delightful display of human foibles and crackling idiosyncracies as the crew sets about their business. Director Perry adeptly guides Tom McGuane's multilayered, sardonic and witty screenplay.
