REVIEW
A pointless, unnecessary sequel, this is very tenuously linked to the stylish, visceral original -- though it's really just a stripped-down, '90s-ized rehash. Bergl is affecting as the put-upon outsider (though suffers in comparison to Sissy Spacek's seminal performance) with the powers of telekinesis. Only her guidance counselor (Irving, the only holdover from the original, in a ridiculous role) and new boyfriend from the in-crowd understand her, but can they stop her from using her powers for revenge against the cruel snobs and jocks? The villains are one-dimensional monsters, so there's little fun in them being massacred in a brutal, gory revenge climax; the truth is, though, that The Rage is 101 minutes of humiliation and pain for the heroine, and 5 minutes of retribution -- it's not fair, and without the lyricism of the '76 classic, it's not satisfying.
