Sci-fi visionary Robert A. Heinlein's gripping cold war parable about alien possession is updated and streamlined into this tense if derivative chiller with more than a passing resemblance to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This time out the alien is a parasite that attaches itself to the spinal cord of its victim and drills into the brain. Though we've seen it all before, the film benefits from a fast-paced script, good special effects and a commanding performance by Sutherland as the resident know-it-all science expert called in to stem the tide of alien domination.
