REVIEW
Slater, fresh from his success in Heathers, dons the troubled youth persona once again, and though this subversive teen comedy-drama has none of that near-classic's devilish wit, it's dead on target in capturing teenage disillusionment in the land of "white bread." Slater plays a shy high school student who lets go and "talks hard" as Harry Hard-on, an irreverent pirate D.J. His voice in tune to both the misfits and the hip of his school, Harry soon becomes an unwilling guru to his classmates, and a "threat" to school and local authorities. Pump Up the Volume is brimming with great dialogue and an excellent musical score, and like Heathers, casts an iconoclastic glance towards today's teens. Editor's Suggestions
