REVIEW
Based on the long-running Sunday morning comic strip, this live-action film recounts Valiant's early passage from squire to prince. High production values, lush scenery and excellent acting from a largely unknown cast combine with fast action and engaging characters to provide fine entertainment. The Vikings, led by the evil Mordred, successfully steal Excalibur from King Arthur's court during a knightly jousting match. Sir Gawain is injured so his squire Valiant impersonates him to save his honor and win the match. Realizing the deceit and impressed with his bravery, King Arthur assigns him the task of escorting the lovely Princess Elaine to safety while the knights are off in search of Excalibur. Elaine, an early feminist who yields a mean sword, falls in love with Valiant while they battle side by side. Together they uncover evil plots and save the kingdom. This writer and her 8-year-old son enjoyed the movie immensely.
