This Cinderella story about a Los Angeles hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold who becomes involved with a repressed New York tycoon borrows much from better films before it. But few of them featured as charming a performance as that of Roberts. As the businessman, Gere reacts nicely and looks quite handsome with his greying hair, but his role is simply a foil for the enchanting Ms. Roberts.
