Pie in the Sky

Charles plays a young man with two obsessions: his childhood love, Amy (Heche), and traffic. Conceived while his parents were stuck in a traffic jam, he feels it's his life work, and he dreams of meeting his idol, traffic reporter Alan Davenport (Goodman). Meanwhile, he and Amy have an on-again, off-again romance. A mildly enjoyable romantic comedy, Pie in the Sky is slightly disappointing considering director Gordon's previous film, the Oscar-winning short Ray's Male Heterosexual Dance Hall. This isn't as whimsical or romantic as it wants to be, nor as edgy or energetic as it should be, but the traffic-obsession angle lends it a nice, quirky feel, and it remains highly watchable throughout.
