REVIEW
Since Mazursky has dabbled with autobiographical material in the past, and had a flop with Scenes from a Mall, the obvious question is whether this comedy springs from some personal experience. Aiello effectively assumes the role of Harry Stone, the hedonistic yet weary director who reluctantly checks his integrity and accepts a job at the helm of a movie about a giant pickle from outer space. Though The Pickle is a curious mix of genuine drama and broad sitcom humor that never quite gels, it is entertaining and more than holds its own amidst the crowded giant vegetable genre.
