Paradise (Melanie Griffith)

A surprisingly effective remake of the French hit Le Grand Chemin. Johnson and Griffith play a troubled rural couple who take care of a friend's young son for the summer. The shy, sheltered youth (well played by Wood) befriends a young tomboy (Birch), who helps the boy emerge from his shell. And, in turn, the youth helps the couple come to terms with the death of their baby. A low-key, rather sweet coming-of-age tale.
